THANK YOU SEA SHEPHERD

Sea Shepherd is an international, non-profit marine conservation organization that was founded in 1977 by Paul Watson.

Sea Shepherd mission is to protect the perfectly balanced ecosystem called Ocean, that have been design to support and sustain marine wildlife. They protect defenceless whales, dolphins, seals, sharks, penguins, turtles, fish, krill and aquatic birds from poaching, unsustainable fishing, habitat destruction of coral reefs, the loss of coastal nesting sites and exploitive captivity.

The Oceans are the birthplace of all life on the planet. We have to halt the destruction of life in our Ocean, for if life in the Ocean dies, we all die.”

Captain Paul Watson

All the rubbish dumped into water is suffocating our oceans and that have a devastating impact on this amazing but fragile ecosystems around the world. All the plastic bottles, straws, aluminum cans, plastic bags, lighters, fishing line, nets, ropes, hooks and much more is a serious danger to marine life.
It is not only causing injury or death through drowning, entanglement, or starvation to sea creatures, but also a health risk for humans. The reason of course is because of the micro plastics, toxins and mercury ingested by marine life will sooner or later end up in our stomach.

On top of that, we also have offshore drilling accidents and spills that are responsible for some of the biggest manmade environmental disasters. We all remember the impact of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.

Actions is the key!

Their campaigns have been very effective because of the direct action approach instead of petitions or protests. Sea Shepherd have saved over 6000 whales from the Japanese harpoons, they took seal hunters down a peg, chased poaching vessels for a 100 and 10 days until they sunk their own ship!

Many successful actions were conducted in cooperation with INTERPOL. Sea Shepherd help nations who cant defend their own coastal waters and that include Liberia, Gabon and the Galapagos. Lets not forget of  many successful projects on the high seas and in Australia, New Zealand, France, UK, Belgium, Finland and Italy.

Sea Shepherd manage to get some of the politician on board and impose legal measures  to successfully prevent BP from establishing new offshore drilling site in the waters of the Great Australian Bight.

HOW THEY STARTED

From the very beginning Sea Shepherd has embraced the international conservation laws and today they work with agencies and national governments around the world to stop illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. Illegal fishing operations, that take place in the high seas far from any witnesses are extremely difficult to bring to justice. However the Sea Shepherd is trying to tackle that! Illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing is a global problem that threatens our Oceans.

That is why Sea Shepherd works with governments to make a difference for the future of our oceans.

DID YOU KNOW?

With fish being poison with all the toxins and debris that we dump into the sea and the fact that an animal protein diet is one of the top four contributors to climate change maybe we all should consider a  plant-based diet in the good and greatness of the planet Earth.
